Slob houses
July 15th, 2006
Why don’t some people take pride in their homes? Why do they allow it to become an eyesore, sticking out like a sore thumb in an otherwise great neighborhood? You’d have seen these - paint peeling from the walls, odd unsightly stains, crooked tiles or awnings, overgrown gardens and a general aura of lack of care.
I could understand it in a shantytown - but not in a decent neighborhood. And it doesn’t take too much time or money. All it needs is that little bit of attention now and then.
Get the lawn mowed; if you’re feeling too lazy, get a kid around the block to do it for you. A coat of paint doesn’t cost the earth and does wonders for the appearance. Remember to sandpaper off the old paint first, to get rid of the stains and peeling patches, and give a uniform finish.
Now add some home & garden decor - a bird bath, some garden chairs or a hammock, or even a pond or fountain if you feel like it. For the rooms that face outside, change the curtains, add some lamps and give a cheery look. Or add a flag! It does wonders to how the place looks, and doesn’t take any maintenance.
Whatever - just get rid of the slob look!

I agree to some degree.. but I have to say, after the last few days this is rather a sore spot to me!
A few days ago, my car was stolen, I watched the man drive away in it. He wrecked it, three times. He also flattened the front tire, drove around on my rim, burned up the clutch and the e-brake.. luckily for the neighbors whos care MrCrazy didn’t hit, the police had him in under 10 blocks. So I had the body work done.. replaced some lights, etc.
The car was parked in front of my house, with the one flat tire, awaiting it’s date with the tire and then paint shop.
It’s there 2 days, I’m not made of money, these things will be done on a schedule, 2 days, and the city comes and tags it inoperable. Well okay, you aren’t aloud to have an inoperable vehichle parked on the street, I realize, I mean hey, you’re taking up public parking right?
So I move the damn car into the driveway, I’m not the strongest girl in the world, yank a front tire off your car and give driving it up a driveway on the rim a shot. But ok, over and done.
Or not… 3 days later, the car now has a new rim, no tire on it yet, I’ve bought the tire, but frankly, I can’t put a tire on a rim.. so hmmm a towtruck?
The man from the city comes a knockin’, now don’t get me wrong, I’m not mad at him, he has a job to do, bills to pay whatever, and he was cool.
But appearntly one of my neighbors has called several times about this eyesore. Guess what, it’s also against the law for me to park ANY inoperable, or not currently tagged car in my driveway!
Man, its my driveway ,,, I payed for it! Frankly, whatever, so I’ll take the pool table and the poker table out of the garage.. guess they’ll fit in with the dining room table for a few days.. but my goodness.. there isn’t one of these nosey neighbors that don’t know my car was stolen.. there you have it, that’s what I hate.. freakin neighbors!
